tiger30th March, 1935 : Germany’s massive rearmament programme was at the head of the agenda in the Moscow talks between Anthony Eden, the Lord Privy Seal, and Maxim Litvinov, the Soviet Foreign Minister. The communique reflected the shared anxieties by referring to to the need “in present international situation” to promote collective security through the League of Nations. The two sides also expressed the hope that Germany might be persuaded to join an East European security pact.
