No pain no gain – but unfortunately unnecessary pain when the obvious dangers are ignored. Politicians suffer no pain – you do.

22nd July, 1940 : Churchill replies to Hitler’s peace offer through his Foreign Minister, Lord Halifax: “We never wanted the war; certainly no one here wants the war to go on for a day longer than necessary. But we shall not stop fighting till freedom for ourselves and others is secure.”

The British set up the SOE (Special Operations Executive) to co-ordinate commando operations and the clandestine struggle in countries occupied by the Germans.
