No pain no gain – but unfortunately unnecessary pain when the obvious dangers are ignored. Politicians suffer no pain – you do.

Bardia.prisoners3rd January, 1941 : The British, reinforced by the 6th Australian Division (replacing the 4th Indian Division sent to Sudan), resume the offensive in Cyrenaica. Bardia defences pierced by the Australians; 8,000 Italian prisoners taken on a nine-mile front.

General Wavell (commander-in-chief of the British forces in the Middle East) receives a request from London to begin a large scale preparations for the despatch of a British expeditionary force from Egypt to Greece. This possibly determines Wavell not to press his advantage over the Italians by pursuing them farther for the time being.
