Flag_of_Burma_(1948-1974).svg4th January, 1948 : At 4.20 this morning, an hour chosen by Burmese astrologers as the most auspicious for birth of a new republic, the guns of the cruiser HMS Birmingham crashed out a celebration of the independence of the Union of Burma. While the guns were sounding their message, a large group of statesmen and diplomats gathered somewhat sleepily at the Secretariat, Burma’s Houses of Parliament, in the capital city of Rangoon, for the ceremony of lowering the Union Jack and hoisting the national flag of Burma. Rangoon will celebrate for the next five days.

[ Presumably celebrating ever since, even forgetting the name ]
