…from the quill of Antisthenes the Younger
Why now? Something, which has been happening for ages and nobody blinked an eyelid, now gets into the news:
“…international aid supremo Penny Mordaunt will demand dossiers of evidence on ALL allegations of sex abuse, both past and present, including the Haiti cover-up.
Refusal will cost them millions in government cash. But Oxfam is not the only major suspect in the dock.
The minister named giants like Christian Aid, Save The Children and the British Red Cross, who also have questions to answer.
This furore is spreading. The biggest, most unaccountable charity of them all — the cash-guzzling but useless United Nations — is facing claims of wholesale sex abuse by aid workers.
Big Charity has grown fat, arrogant and ungrateful on the huge dollops of cash dished out to them by taxpayers.”
“…Oxfam has been rapped repeatedly by the Charity Commission for campaigns that could pass as Labour Party commercials. In 2014 it was forced to delete a tweet blaming Tories for a “perfect storm” of benefit cuts, zero-hours contracts and unemployment. More recently it claimed capitalism caused world poverty, when evidence proves the exact opposite is true.”
That Hungarian misanthrope could have something to do with that but he, better than many others, would know that charities and foreign aid generally are detrimental to people/victims well-being and thus grist to his mill. After all, many books and articles have been published since the two oldies, but still goodies – Graham Hancock – The Lords of Poverty: The Power, Prestige and Corruption of the International Aid Business (1989) and Michael Maren – The Road to Hell: The Ravaging Effects of Foreign Aid and International Charity (1997) so only hopelessly naïve simpleton can believe his or her donation is doing good. Well, it is doing good to the charity elite. A simpleton may get his warm inner feeling and the lords of poverty get warm and wet feeling.
