No pain no gain – but unfortunately unnecessary pain when the obvious dangers are ignored. Politicians suffer no pain – you do.

30th August, 1941 : In the northern sector the Germans capture Mga cutting the last railway connection between Leningrad and the rest of the country.

In the central sector the Russians launch another ineffective counter-offensive north of Gomel. The armoured groups of Kleist and Guderian throw all their forces into the battle for Kiev, which is strenuously defended by Marshal Budenny’s troops.
