No pain no gain – but unfortunately unnecessary pain when the obvious dangers are ignored. Politicians suffer no pain – you do.

30th November, 1941 : German pressure on Moscow takes the Panzergruppen of Hoeppner and Reinhardt beyond Klin to Dimitrov on the Moscow-Volga canal, and Guderian’s group cuts the railway between Tula and Serpukhov.

German losses (according to German sources) from 22 June to 30 November 1941: 162,000 dead, 33,334 missing, 572,000 wounded. In belaguered Leningrad 11,000 people died of starvation during November. In December the figure is to rise to 52,000.
